Liposuction
Cost
The cost of liposuction is influenced by a number of factors. One factor is the qualifications and training of the individual
performing the surgery.
Individuals undergoing cosmetic surgery should make certain that
their surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only Board of Plastic
Surgery that is recognized by the American Medical Association.
It is not enough to check if the surgeon is board certified because
the physician may not even be a surgeon and may be certified by
a board that is not recognized by the American Medical Association.
Further individuals should determine if the surgeon is a member
of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. This society
is composed of board certified plastic surgeons who specialize in
cosmetic surgery. To enhance patient safety all members
of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery must only operate
in fully accredited surgical facilities.
The cost of the surgery is also affected by the number of sites
or areas that will be treated.
The definition of what constitutes a site varies from one practitioner
to the next. Some surgeons consider the abdomen one site; others
consider the abdomen two sites. Some practitioners consider the
lateral thighs a single site, others consider the lateral thighs
two sites .Some practitioners consider the anterior thigh part of
the lateral thigh others regard the anterior thigh as a separate
site.
There are separate costs for the surgical facility, the anesthesia
and the garments. Your surgeons should be comfortable with all of
the types of liposuction available (S.A.L.,P.A.L.,and U.A.L.). The
recommendations for your specific case should be based on what provides
you with the optimal result and should not be limited by what the
practitioner can perform or equipment they can afford to purchase.
The bottom line is that comparison of the costs from two practitioners
can be confusing .Take your time, do not be afraid to ask questions
and get written firm costs preoperatively.
